Vandaag is de succesvolle online campagne-community Avaaz.org een flits-campagne gestart om de Europese leiders te bewegen tot écht leiderschap in de strijd tegen de klimaatcrisis. Binnen enkele uren zijn er al meer dan 50.000 steunbetuigingen. De Avaaz-oproep richt zich met name tegen Merkel (Duitsland), Berlusconi (Italië) en Tusk (Polen). Zij lijken aan de vooravond van de Europese besprekingen over een ambitieus klimaatpakket en de VN-top in Polen slappe knieën te krijgen. Bij gebrek aan Europees leiderschap wordt de mondiale last op de (Climate) Change-president Obama wel erg zwaar. Dus... vanwege het belang ervan, heb ik maar even de volledige Avaaz-oproep gekopieerd:

Crucial European leadership on climate change is in jeopardy -- putting the current global negotiations to avert the climate crisis at serious risk.To salvage the negotiations taking place in Poland and Belgium, we need an immediate outcry targeting three critical countries: Italy, Germany, and Poland. If these countries don't change course by Dec 12, Europe will fail to reach a unified position, which may well unravel the entire global process for good.
Avaaz members are meeting with European negotiators now in Poland and Brussels, polling citizens and preparing to rally outside a crucial German-Polish meeting next week. Add your name to the global petition, and Avaaz will deliver it to the heart of the climate talks.

Enne, voor wie moeite heeft met het Engels; er is ook een Nederlandstalige pagina op Avaaz.org (maar daar staat de actuele petitie aan de Europese regeringsleiders nog niet op helaas...)
