+ 0 - 0 | § ¶Working towards a Green Industrial Policy?

MEP Reinhard Bütikofer hosted a workshop this morning during the Green European Summer University. His question for the participants (from nine different European countries) was: is it possible and do we (the Greens) want to work towards a Green Industrial Policy?

In the 90 minutes that followed the participants seemed to say Yes! in every sentence (not literally, but implicit). The Greens for some people aren't a likely political party to have a position on industrial policy, but at the same time we have a lot of ideas that concern or have to do with the development (or non-development) of the industrial production (and harvesting) in and around Europe.

It was interesting to experience that – with the frame of Industrial Policy – it was possible to discuss a lot of green ideas and principles, without being too idealistic, or whatever. The participants in the working group and Reinhard himself concluded in the end that it's very worthwile to talk and think about a green and sustainable production cycles, world trade negotiations and incentives for industries around Europa (and in fact around the world). Reinhard Bütikofer seeded an idea today and I'm quite convinced that it will be fruitfull the coming period. Inspiring!
